When you are making, particularly raw food, smoothies, the machine you make it in is important. A heavy duty blender, such as the BlenTek or the VitaMix, will make the nutrients more available, and will last longer, given the hard usage over time. I'm not just talking about the fact that we may use the machine more often than many, but that the stuff we pack into it is hard on the works of the blender.

I have owned a VitaMix for about 20 years, and about 2 months ago, got a BlenTek. I really love the BlendTek. It is programmed for the various uses, so you don't overdo the blending, or under do it. With these type of blenders, if you go too long, you can actually cook the contents. It doesn't actually boil, and so it destroys less of the nutrients than stove-top methods, but a hot smoothie is less appealing to me.

My wife and I have a green smoothie every morning, and a sweeter one in the evening every day.

There's no doubt about the nutritional value of high fibre high antioxidant blended foods and once you've tried them you'll be able to testify to how tasty and satisfying they are but I am here to tell you that there is another player in the high performance blender market- the Power Mill Blender.
The Power Mill has all the power, durability and versatility of the two blenders you mention here but at a fraction of the price. If you are looking for a blender that will get the best out of any ingredients (including your iPhone or whatever ;) and never give up this is the smart shopper's option. Why pay extra for the market dominance of the Vita Mix or the online hype of the Blend Tek? If you're looking for a heavy duty blender at a competitive price check out http://www.powermillblender.com/
