How to Eat Out
When you go to a "mainstream", i.e., non-raw, restaurant, most often you can get a salad.
Okay, it might not be organic... if that is going to be a major issue, don't go.
Chain restaurants often cannot help you much in the way of salad -- everything they get is
pre-prepared and comes to the kitchen in bags or portions.
Here is an idea I got from Raw Foods News Magazine:
If you are so inclined and very organized, make a list of vegetables
which would be agreeable for you in a salad.
Be kind of specific, but also kind of open - like: greens, such as spinach, lettuce, etc. ( You won't know who you are dealing with in the kitchen -- are they thnking people? Creative? Decide how much you want to spell out!); red bell peppers, onions (specify if you like); celery; mushrooms; etc. and so forth -- this is your list of possible inclusions).
You can print off this list and carry it with you and ask the waiter to take it to the chef.
You can ask for lemon juice and/or extra virgin olive oil on the side.
I've been lucky -- I've been able to get plain salads without having to importune the chef -
still, I think the list idea is kind of nifty-- I just don't think I could go around passing it out, myself.
You can find the article and and a very detailed list at

Raw Foods and Health
When I discovered Lesley kenton's Biogenic Diet, I thought I was fully recovered from 5 years of M.E. I couldn't have done it earlier in the disease cycle, because I wouldn't have had the energy or will. But when I did, WOW! It should me that probably most of us live at only about 80% health and think that's as good as it gets. Once I started eating Lesley's delicious salads and soups and nut and seed cheeses, my recovery skyrocketed and I felt better than I ever had. Now I say I had M.E. for 6 years, but the last year, once I ate raw foods, was when i got 100% better.

how do you get protein?
yes, i agree that the nuts and greens will give plenty of protein....i even add protein rich brewers yeast to my daily juicing. but i do like to add a small amount of marinated sushi grade tuna to my salads...i won't drink raw milk, so i have gone to soy milk....but i have found a great raw sharp cheddar cheese at the local co-op....i would advise against raw beef unless you personally know the grower and butcher....the stuff you get in the large grocery chains in down right scary!....also remember to include some pure virgin olive oil on your greens, watch out for getting enough healthy fats....who else is excited at how the weight magically drops off, the skin glows and aches and pains have faded?

Easy ways to eat raw at restaurants!
Eating out raw is not that difficult. You can bring some of your own staples along with you and and combine with these ideas:
Mexican: Pica di gao (chopped tomato and cilantro with lime juice - not spelled correctly) and guac and any other veggies that usually come on the side with fajitas Japanese: Seaweed salad and veggie rolls without the rice Thai: Spring rolls (not eating the wrapper of course) with dipping sauce, papaya salad, mango salad (YUM) American: Iceberg salad with olive oil and lemon juice/balsamic vinegar
*These suggestions don't require any special requests from the restaurant, but if you don't mind doing that, you can always ask for veggie sides raw at any restaurant.
